This christmas I took Skye to Winter Wonderland, a funfair that runs in hyde park. We went several times as she liked it so much. I think the first time was the best though, we went during the day, just her and I. The sun was shining, I was carrying her on my shoulders and there was christmas music playing. Skye loved it so much, she went on her first rollercoaster and screamed like crazy.

Had a lovely day with Skye yesterday, was a nice end to an uneventful Easter. First of all I organised a treasure hunt to find an Easter eggs with clues. She loved that and we sat on the floor sharing the chocolate. Then we went to the funfair. We went on loads of stuff, bouncy castles, roller coasters, spinning penguins, a funhouse and a bungee trampoline. I was wondering if she’d be scared but she loved it. I got giving a strap so I could bounce her up and down, it was like ringing a bell! We went on a fast ride too, but it was a bit fast for her, but I was very proud that she didn’t cry or complain too much.

We then went home to Sarahs for a lovely roast dinner. I’m just a bit sad that I won’t see her for 10 days as she’s off to Bristol

Have been in Bristol for the last week or so visiting Mum & Dad with Skye & Sarah in tow. Has been the first time that we've all spent a significant amount of time together I think. It's been hard work as Sarah has hurt her foot and been ill for a large part of it, but has also been great spending a lot of time with Skye and my parents. Is interesting seeing how she acts in a different environment when the odds are stacked against her and it's not a 1 on 1 situation.
We've gone to the park, shopping in Bristol and went to Bath. Nothing hugely exciting, but is nice to walk about and wander with no particular purpose.
This week has seen the creation of "Sammy Spider" who is actually my own right hand who scurries around like "Thing" from the Adams family. Skye loves Sammy and doesn't stop asking where he is. She gives him hugs and kisses. I'm not sure if Sammy is a good thing or a bad thing yet. On one hand she'll do things with Sammy that she won't do with me, so it gives me a second chance. For example:
"Do you want to go to the toilet?"
"No, want to go with mummy"
"How about with Sammy spider?"
"yes, love sammy spider!"
On the other hand it does get a bit tiresome with her asking about her all the time.

She's been really well behaved today though, is going to be hard when I go back to london and not living with her again.

Been mucking around with the site, trying to get it themed and the gallery working, with limited success.
Skye started nursery the other day. I can't believe how fast she's growing. I have this image in my head of turning the corner to see Sarah & Skye waiting for me, and skye started running towards me with her little bag on her back like a proper little schoolgirl. Lovely.
She got on fine, although a few altercations with the boys on what exactly should go in the oven ;)
Oh another precious memory, she woke me up the other morning and I got a good morning hug. When asked for a good morning kiss, she replied
"No Daddy, not until you wake up" Priceless.

Today I was feeling a bit down and out of sorts, so I gave Skye a big hug.
"Daddy. I love you and I love spending time with you"
Priceless, just what I needed

Hadn't seen Skye for ages as she'd been in Bristol and I've been working really hard. Went over to Sarah's last night to see her and she was napping, so I went in to wake her up.
She stirred as I went into her room and stood up for a hug.
"I missed you lots Daddy" she said as I picked her up and gave me a big kiss.
I can't really describe how that made me feel.

After Sarah went to do some shopping, I put on some music and danced around the room with her. She was grinning like a maniac as we jumped up and down looking into each others eyes. I love her so much.

She's speaking a crazy amount now. Full blown conversations consisting of many full sentences with correct inflections and everything. Clever girl.

It was a pleasure spending timewith Skye this evening, she was very giggly and cuddly. I got a few really big hugs that warmed my heart to the core (and even a few stealth ones). One of them lasted for 5 minutes, neither of us willing to break the hug, making soft noises of contentment at each other.
I love you little girl.

Went to the park yesterday and had lots of fun. Stopped by on the way back and bought some ice-cream. Skye went slightly hyper in a very funny way :) After dancing and giggling on the patio table, I went to the lounge and she followed me shuffling across the kitchen tiles very slowly. She gets to the kitchen door and looks at the carpet in front of her.
"Daddy, I'm stuck on the stone"
"What?"
"Stuck on the stone, I can't get off"
"Would you like me to carry you?"
"Yeah, probably is easier"
She cracks me up!

I had a lovely day with you today. We didn't do an awful lot to be honest, but I enjoyed the closeness a lot. We had a bath, then played in the spare room bouncing on the bed and doing backflips. You told me to leave the room so you could hide under the covers. We went to the park after you'd had your nap where completely of your own volition, decided to go down the slide head first. That's my girl :) You climbed the rope ladder too like a little monkey. I can't wait till you're big enough to go on the big climbing frames.
I also turned my stairs into a slide. This is either a really good or a really bad idea, I'm not sure which. I need to do some DIY to make it a bit safer though.
I've stopped being relieved that I can relax when you go to bed and started missing you when you're asleep. Sweet dreams baby.

"Skye give Daddy a kiss" she say from the worktop, and does so
"Have a bite of my biscuit Daddy, make you feel better"

Awwww.

Had Skye for some of easter and had a great time. On sunday Sarah came round and cooked some dinner and I managed to get Skye sat up at the table as we were having an easter meal together. Bites of food were interpersed with clinking of glasses and “Cheers” and “Happy easter”. Literally every bite :)

When I put her to bed she told me that I’d just be downstairs and I had to turn the TV back on to watch it. Doesn’t miss a beat that one.

On Sunday I got a bit of a lie in which was nice, she got up around 11AM. I had to wake her too and she stretched and yawned saying

“I slept all day as was really tired”. Awwww.

Watched WALL-E (AGAIN) and some of finding Nemo. I left her in the study watching Nemo while I did some chores in the kitchen, but I’d forgotten the start of Nemo is pretty scary so had to go back and give her huggles.

In the afternoon we went to the funfair at Alexandra Palace (which amusingly she called Alice’s house) and went on the trampolines & on a pedalo with baby Ben & baby Freya. They seemed to have a good time :) Wasn’t impressed by leaving though.

Had thai takeaway and got her to try some hot & sour soup which she liked and some chicken too.

I was playing around with my iPod and got this cool new remote app on it. I was seeing what it could do and was playing with FrontRow on the mac and looking at pictures from the past and videos of you. Sometimes I miss you so much that I forget how happy it makes me to see you, to hear you laugh. I was sat on the sofa watching all the moments from the past with a smile on my face and a tear in my eye, thinking how lucky I am to have you in my life. You mean more to me than you'll probably realize, at least probably not until the cycle starts again and you go through this yourself.

So I've recently been under pressure from quite a few people to teach Skye how to speak French. I don't argue the value in learning a second language, but I also don't think it's as useful as you think. Are you. the reader bilingual? If the answer is yes, how useful do you actually find it? I personally don't find that speaking French gives me any advantage in life apart from the fact that it gives me a better insight into how language works, and how the language we use shapes our thoughts and ways of thinking. If you only know one language I imaging that these concepts don't even occur to you. Ultimately though, it's a good think to learn even if the value is small.
I'm reluctant to do it though. I don't want to speak French to Skye for several reasons:
- I don't want to go back to the stage of development where communicating with Skye is difficult
- As I live on my own, it's very hard to maintain a one sided conversation, especially in an unfamiliar language
- I look forwards all week to interacting with Skye and I don't want to spoil my enjoyment
- I have so much I want to teach her and so little time, like reading, or sign language for instance. I see my primary role as a Dad to be one of a teacher.
- I don't feel I have the energy to do this on my own and maintain it.

Had a lovely afternoon with Skye, she was an absolute angel. She was so excited to see me that it made all the stress and tiredness from the day evaporate. She didn't want to be apart from me the whole afternoon, had to come with me everywhere I went and share every precious moment.
We went shopping together as I needed to get some food (including yogurt and jelly of course), so we walked down to iceland hand in hand. When we got there, I let her push the basket around and asked her what she wanted. Sometimes I handed her the item to put in the basket, other times she helped herself, like with the 3 packets of yogurts! After a while the trolley got too heavy to push, so she ran around the shop with both hands out shouting "STAR!!" which is something she's learnt from a dance/play group think. Cute.
Got to the checkout and she passed me all the stuff for me to pay for it and then helped pack it away. She's a helpful little girl, loves to help with everything if you'll let her.
I've also managed to not watch WALL-E for the first time in god knows how long. I hope she's bored of it now. We watched Alladin which she seemed to like, especially the songs. She didn't like fraggle rock though, thought it was boring.
Didn't want to take her back, she didn't want to leave either, said she wanted to stay at Daddy's house. Looking forwards to friday for more Skyetime.

Went to hampstead heath on Sunday to meet up with Skye, Sarah and Steve. Was an absolute nightmare getting there, every way I tried to go had transport issues, and I was hot and irritable by the time I got there. My frustration quickly evaporated as I walked up the hill and Skye saw me
"There's my Daddy!" she squealed as she ran towards me. I got a running hug and a quick kiss before she asked me for ice cream. Apparently she'd had a tamtrum, dropped it and the dog ate it.
She was very keen on going in the lake, so I explained that we didn't have armbands with us
"No armbands, can't swim" she affirmed.
She spied a stick in the water and went to investigate
"Big dick" she said, pointing.
"No that would be a STICK..."

We walked back to Steve's car and she let me put her on my shoulders, which she doesn't do very often. She fed me bits of her ice cream at regular intervals and somehow avoided dripping too much of it on my head. Had lots of (tiring) fun bouncing her up and down, but she liked the running best. I imagine it is quite fun to be on someone's shoulder who's running. I love the sound of her laugh.

Went back to Sarah's and had some food and played some more with Skye. She did her first unaided roly-poly! Went on to do do daddy-climbing and backflips off my shoulders. I even got her to stand balanced on my shoulders for a while until she tried to sit on my head. I'll make an acrobat out of her yet :)

A memory...
Putting some music on and dancing with Skye
"Make it louder" she says, so I put it louder
"Like this one" she says smiling. I think it was "spitfire" by the Prodigy
She looks up at me with a sly smile
"Like a baby" she says softly. So I cradle her in my arms and look at her big blue eyes staring up at me with her impish grin. She claps her hands with glee
"Love you Daddy". My heart turns to butter
